According to Snap-on,

Starting with the 2011 model year, Ford and Lincoln vehicles use what’s called a battery management system, and what that does is it’ll help conserve the battery’s power.

In the case of ford models, they are equipped with a similar system that controls charger rate depending on the battery age and sulfation. The reset of BMS is necessary in Ford trucks to perform rightly.

As you know, the ford truck’s latest models from 2011 to 2021 have a BMS system that needs a proper reset. The reset steps are not hard but you need to get familiar with the 2 methods. And, they can be done:

  1. Reset Using FORScan.
  2. Reprogram Without A Scanner Tool.

The BMS on ford trucks can be reset with or without a scanner tool that will help it to manually reprogram. FYI, the forscan is a scanner tool that detects a BMS module with an external OBD II adapter. You can also check how to use forscan f150 if you want to learn.

And also, we’ve given another method that won’t need a scanner tool or adapter to reset the BMS easily.

Note: Before trying the methods, don’t start your ford truck for 30 minutes as it will help to reset Battery Management System better.

Method 1: FORScan BMS Reset Instructions

Items That You’ll Need:

  • Adapter

Step-1: Connect the positive cable of your truck to the battery positive post. Then, attach the negative cable to the vehicle ground. Avoid putting the negative cable on the negative post.

Step-2: Once your battery is prepared, start the reset process using forscan. Connect an OBD II adapter to the computer along with the laptop.

Step-3: Install forscan if you don’t have that on your laptop. Then, put your key into the ignition and avoid starting it.

Step-4: Connect the forscan to the vehicle. And then, a tab will pop up on the laptop on forscan. Next, go to the wrench icon which is settings.

Step-5:  Find the BMS Configuration and disable it. After that, you have to change the code by checking your vehicle owner’s manual. Once you have changed the code, click on the Play that is located near the Stop bar.

Step-6: Follow the instructions given on your laptop screen. Then, hit on the Stop bar to complete the reset process.

Step-7: Then, disconnect forscan from your truck and unplug the OBD II adapter.

Method 2: Ford Battery Management System Reset Without A Scanner Tool

  • Now, notice the battery symbol on the dashboard and check whether it flashes or not after 5-15 seconds.
  • If the battery light flashes up to 3 times in 10-15 seconds, it means the battery management system has been reset rightly.
