The connection between Piston 2 and the crankshaft is behind Piston 1. Next comes the main bearing, followed by piston 3, then piston 4, then another main bearing, and so on. This setup allows the piston rods to connect to the crankshaft in the correct order, with the left bank offset behind the right bank.
It is important to note that many firing orders for Duramax V-8 engines sometimes differ. Different firing orders may also boost engine power output under some circumstances.
Generally, the firing order in a Duramax is 1-2-7-8-4-5-6-3. The firing order of this engine isn’t too problematic when the engine is left completely stock. If you face any issues with this firing order, you can move to the alternative firing order of 1-5-6-3-4-2-7-8.
